Video Advertising That Earns the First Five Seconds

YouTube gives you cheap reach and real attention. It also gives every viewer a Skip button after five seconds, which means the opening of your video matters more than everything else in the campaign combined.

  • Hook designed for the first 5 seconds
  • Cheap reach for building demand
  • Strong remarketing surface

The Problem

Why Most YouTube Campaigns Waste Money

Almost always the creative, not the targeting.

A TV ad structure on a skippable platform

Brand build-up for fifteen seconds before the point arrives. On YouTube the viewer is gone at five, so the argument has to start immediately.

Expecting direct response from cold video

Video is excellent at creating demand and poor at closing it cold. Judging a reach campaign on last-click conversions makes it look like a failure when it is doing its actual job.

Repurposing a landscape ad for Shorts

Vertical placements now carry a large share of cheap inventory, and horizontal video with letterboxing performs badly in them.

No remarketing layer

Cold video reach with nothing to catch the people it warmed up. The demand gets created and then handed to whoever advertises to them next.

Our Approach

Hook First, Then Funnel

We build creative around the first five seconds — the problem stated, the audience identified, or a reason to keep watching — then deliver the argument. Everything else in the campaign is secondary to whether people stop skipping.

Then we treat YouTube as part of a funnel rather than a standalone channel. Video creates awareness cheaply; search, remarketing and Demand Gen campaigns capture the intent it produced. Measured only on last-click, video will always look worse than it is.

What YouTube Adds to a Media Mix

Cheap attention at scale

Cost per view is a fraction of most other paid formats.

Demand where none is being searched for

Reach buyers before they know your category exists.

Explains complex products

Thirty seconds of video does what a page of copy cannot.

Excellent remarketing surface

Video to warm audiences converts well and costs little.

Reinforces search performance

Brand exposure lifts click-through on your search ads.

Creative that works elsewhere

Assets carry over to Meta, Shorts and your website.

How It Works

How We Run YouTube Campaigns

01

Define the funnel role

Awareness, consideration or conversion — and what captures the demand.

02

Creative strategy

Hooks written and storyboarded per format before anything is filmed.

03

Audience build

Custom intent, in-market and remarketing segments defined.

04

Launch & retention testing

Multiple hooks tested against retention curves, not just clicks.

05

Remarketing layer

Viewers segmented by watch depth and moved down the funnel.

06

Measure downstream

Assisted conversions and search lift assessed, not last click alone.

FAQ

Questions Before You Start

Not necessarily. Well-structured phone-shot video with a strong hook routinely outperforms polished production that takes too long to get to the point. We develop the concept and script; filming can be in-house or with a specialist.

For skippable in-stream, make the point within the first five seconds and keep the whole thing between fifteen and thirty seconds unless the product genuinely needs longer. Retention data will tell you where people leave.

Demand Gen and remarketing campaigns can, yes. Cold in-stream reach usually cannot on a last-click basis — it creates demand that converts through search and remarketing later, which is why measuring it on last click understates it badly.

It is one of the cheaper channels for reach, so a few hundred dollars a month produces meaningful impressions. Conversion-focused campaigns need more, around $1,500+ monthly, to gather enough conversion data.

Placement exclusions, content type and inventory settings, plus regular review of the placement report. Brand safety on YouTube requires active management rather than default settings.

Often yes, and bundling makes sense because audiences and remarketing lists are shared. It reaches demand your search campaigns cannot, because nobody is searching for it yet.
